For my gallery visit, I chose to go to an exhibition on at the Royal Festival Hall in Southbank called 'We are all human', an exhibition curated by Benjamin Zephaniah. It was a collection of artworks created by prisoners, ex-offenders on community sentences, secure psychiatric patients and immigration detanainees. I loved this exhibition, it was so different and interesting to see how someone's state of mind can effect the colours that they use to create art and the style in which they choose to create in. The work varied so much and there was also poetry and songs that had been written by the patients which could be listened to as well. The three main themes that were explored by the works on display were contemplation, time and the natural environment. One of my favourite aspects of this show was just how varied the work was, yet as a collection it still all worked very well together, as if the contrasts complimented each other, instead of clashing. I think a reason as to why this happened is because the themes can be clearly felt through the work, therefore each piece shares a similar feeling or message and this is why they go so well together as a body of work.

This piece was my favourite from the whole exhibition as I really liked how childish it looked yet still had a powerful and political message that was conveyed in a playful way. I also liked how it looked like it had been made cheaply with felt tips and had kind of a low budget look to it.
